While I was living in Sydney I used to go to movies about twice a week. At least I tried to. Sometimes it was too difficult to choose from a flimsy consumer-oriented menu of George St cinemas. But at least I used to watch DVDs if there was nothing decent to see at the movies. But once I moved to Prague I became extremely lazy and it's getting worse and worse since. I hardly watch a single movie a week. I don't know exactly what to mention: I watch more or less everything plus few favourite ones, including 2001: A Space Oddysey, cult things such Les Nuits Fauves and consumable Der Himmel über Berlin... On no, that's not what I meant, you know... ;-). I like Kieœlowski, Tarkovski, Rodriguez, Tarantino (Jackie Brown rulez, but Kill Bill wasn't too bad either), Stone... And few movies that I like watching over and over again: Truman Show, Man on the Moon, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (or any Forman's movie, eg. The Loves Of The Blonde :-)), American Beauty, Natural Born Killers (Have I mentioned Stone before???), Fargo, Trainspotting, Lola rennt, Celebrity (any Allen's work), American History X, Leaving Las Vegas, Smoke, Subway (almost any Besson's work), Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie, As Good As It Gets, Dead Man Walking, The Night On Earth (as well as Down By Law, Stranger Than Paradise and Dead Man by Jarmusch)... And many more, including Czech and Slovak movies. And the best movie of a year? I guess Lost In Translation by Sofia Coppola. |
